Places to Get Active in New York City

If you find yourself here on a walking tour company’s blog, chances are that you are an active person.

Are you the type of traveler who uses vacations as an opportunity to take a few days off from the grind of a regimented exercise routine and indulge? Or, as a chance to get a change of scenery while you let off some steam and sweat?

If you are looking for indulgence, let us take this opportunity to direct you to some information about New York Pizza.

If you are looking to get in a workout during your visit and could use some suggestions on where to do that, you are in the right place.

If you are in New York City during the warmer months, here are some of our favorite places to get in an outdoor (and scenic) walk or run:

Central Park: Offering paths and routes of various mileage, our world-famous Central Park is a breathtaking slice of nature in the concrete jungle. Convenient to both the east and west sides of Manhattan with water fountains and snack/drink vendors dispersed throughout. Tuck a few dollars into your running shorts as most vendors are cash only.

East River Promenade: Take in sights of the Brooklyn Bridge and, if you’re running south, the Statue of Liberty. If it’s a hot summer day, cool off by running through the seal sprinklers stationed on the path between Delancey and Grand. The crowd will thicken south of the Brooklyn Bridge and into South Street Seaport – that may be a good time to turn around! We suggest bringing your own bottle of water as there are fewer fountains and vendors until you reach South Street Seaport.

If your visit is during the colder months or you’re looking for more of a structured workout, here are some of the best workout classes coveted by local New Yorkers. Note that a spot in these may require advanced booking.

Soul Cycle – With 20 studios throughout New York City, you likely don’t have to go too far from your hotel to find one.

Fit House – Offers various types of full body workout classes

Brrrn – A cool workout…literally!

Liftonic – Weights-based class for strength and toning

We hope this helps those who are looking to keep up their endorphin levels while here in New York City. Exercise. Pizza. Repeat. A mantra to live by!
